How to hype your morale at work? Here are 5 things you can do! | Zenyum MY

Every September, we celebrate International Week of Happiness at Work, and this year it lands on the 19th to 25th of September 2022.

Did you know that employees who report being happier at work, take 10 times fewer sick days? So, during this week it is important to prioritise our happiness within the workplace and maybe even instill some good habits to carry throughout. If we are happy and satisfied at work it will transcend into boosting our morale and overall happiness!

Zenyum is all about making everyone Smile More, so we are definitely rooting for your happiness. Here are some things you can do to uplift your colleagues’ and your joy at work!

1. Have social activities

“One of the ways we can make ourselves happy and feel more fulfilled in our workplaces is to build friendships with the people that work with us, work for us and even with our boss.” A tip from happiness expert Annie Mckee.

Being happy at work does not only mean making your office environment better but also creating activities outside of work hours. We can work hard but also play hard by having a small community that shares similar interests within the workplace. 

Social activities can be anything from a chill night out or a Muay Thai session after work. Having social time and exercise helps nurture us to be more productive and reduces our stress levels by boosting our endorphins.

2. Make your scenery greener

Adding houseplants to your office space can do wonders for you and your colleagues around. Besides making your scenery look a little nicer, haven’t you heard of the saying to ‘take a break and look at the greenery’. Staring at our laptop screen all day must not be the best for our eyes so we have to take short breaks just to absorb nature. 

These are the numerous benefits of having some plants around:

  • Reduces your stress
  • Increases your productivity 
  • Helps clean the air
  • Reduces noise levels by absorbing sounds
  • Makes your workplace more attractive

3. Take a moment for yourself

Don’t skip out on ‘Me Time’!

Take some time off to work on your happiness. It is essential to step back and care for your mental health so you can be more productive in all aspects. We can’t be happier without working on it which is why you should find something you truly enjoy doing during this week and follow through!

You can even make a positive promise to yourself and slowly include it in your daily routine. Try taking baby steps like reciting self-affirmation every morning, packing a healthy snack to work or start exercising once a week!

4. Show your appreciation

Let the people around you know how much you treasure them. Making others smile can bring you joy so why not compliment and thank your colleagues for the hard work they put in. You can easily make someone’s day by showing them that you notice their contributions and greatly appreciate it.

5. Do something for others

Our last tip goes hand in hand with showing your appreciation to your colleagues.

If you know someone is having a slow week or you just want to brighten their day, why not do something nice for them. You can treat your team to coffee or bring some homemade treats for them to enjoy.

Since we spend most of our time at work why not make the best of it by spreading happiness, especially during this week. A simple act of kindness can boost everyone’s morale.

Just smile!

A smile can go a long way – from living a better and longer life to appearing more approachable and confident.
